At Killara Feedlot, environmental stewardship is central to how we operate
Odour Management
We actively monitor and manage odour through strategic pen design, regular pen cleaning, and effluent treatment processes. Our goal is to maintain air quality and reduce any impact on surrounding communities.
Dust and Noise
Killara uses dust suppression techniques, including bitumen roads, water application and vegetation buffers, to keep air quality high. Noise is minimised through efficient equipment use and operational scheduling, ensuring harmony with our community and environment.
PIRMP Compliance
Killara Feedlot operates under a strict Pollution Incident Response Management Plan (PIRMP) to ensure environmental protection and regulatory compliance. Our PIRMP outlines procedures for preventing, managing, and reporting any pollution incidents, safeguarding air, water, and soil quality. This includes risk assessments, emergency response protocols, and staff training to minimise environmental impact and maintain transparency with authorities and the community.
Farming Practices
Our farming approach focuses on soil health and resource efficiency. We recycle nutrients through effluent irrigation and manure composting, reducing reliance on synthetic fertilisers and supporting sustainable crop production.
Effluent Management
Effluent is captured and treated through holding ponds, then reused for irrigation under strict scheduling. This process prevents runoff, protects waterways, and maximises resource recovery.
Manure Recycling
Manure is composed on-site, creating a sustainable and valuable organic fertiliser for agricultural and landscaping use. This reduces waste, improves soil health and water retention capabilities, and supports circular farming practices.
Solar Farm
Killara is investing in renewable energy through solar farm development, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering our carbon footprint. This initiative reflects our commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
