Our Commitment
We follow strict internal policies and procedures to ensure livestock:
- Are treated humanely and not subjected to distress or pain
- Have access to water, feed, and shade
- Are protected from preventable diseases
- Are handled in compliance with local laws and industry standards
- Have low stress handling
Employees receive ongoing training in livestock handling, health, nutrition, and welfare. Our internal operating procedures are based on industry best practices.
All livestock at Killara are transported by leading animal livestock carriers to ensure animal wellbeing and safety, and are monitored throughout the process. We ensure all animals are safe and fit to load in compliance with industry regulations.
Killara Feedlot exemplifies our commitment to welfare:
- Cattle are housed in comfortable, shaded pens and inspected daily
- Health checks and veterinary audits are routine
- Staff receive regular training in low-stress handling
- Sick or injured animals are humanely treated in our animal hospitals for recovery
Killara leads in proactive health management:
- First in Australia to introduce autogenous vaccines for cattle
- 95% of cattle are pre-vaccinated for Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) response capability
- At Killara feedlot, our commitment to antimicrobial stewardship is upheld through the adoption of best-practice livestock preparation prior to feedlot entry
- Killara feedlot continues to explore advanced technologies that enable the early detection of BRD in livestock
